Stamshaw School Artwork & Poetry
I’m thrilled to share an exciting project that recently took place, a big thanks to Gill and the talented students of Stamshaw Junior School. Introducing an incredible art project involving Year 6 students and the Year 2s from their infant school. Imagine 120 kids in a hall, brimming with creativity and energy!
Exploring Local Art and Poetry
This project began with Stamshaw students looking at my work as a local artist and creative. Inspired by “The Palmerston Pigeon” and “The Southsea Seagull, the spec was to create their own drawings and poems.
Adding to the fun, Gill told the students a delightful story about the “Stamshaw Stork” – technically a heron, but reimagined as a cheeky stork for the story’s sake. This bird has been mischievously stealing fish from the school’s pond! The children studied images of storks and channelled their creativity into drawing their interpretations of this cheeky bird. Some of the students even wrote poems about the Stamshaw Stork, showcasing their literary talents alongside their artistic skills.
Celebrating Our Young Artists
A big thank you to Gill for organising such a fantastic project. It’s an honour to see my artwork and poetry sparking creativity. To all the students involved – your artwork is amazing, and I’m proud to share it.
If you’re a parent or guardian of one of these talented students, please feel free to share this post with family and friends. Let’s celebrate the wonderful achievements of our young artists together! Below you will find the poem written by Y6 & Y2 children.
The Stamshaw Stork
The Stamshaw Stork
Uses it’s beak like a fork
It comes to our pond
As it is rather fond
Of stabbing our fish
They’re its favourite dish! The Stamshaw Stork
Is tall and scary
With it’s menacing ways
It’s often known as lairy! The Stamshaw Stork
Always ready to attack
Visits our pond
To eat it’s favourite snackThe Stamshaw Stork
Stabbing fish left and right
Gets ready to set off
To take it’s flight.
